Caden is getting big!

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Wee Caden isn’t so little anymore!  I’ve been shooting this little one since he was still in his mommy’s tummy…and now look at him go!  We met up a few days ago in Marietta Square to shoot some fall photographs of him.  What a silly little man he’s become!  Enjoy!

The Schreiber’s new addition!

Friday, September 18th, 2009

You may recall the Schreiber family from a few weeks ago or maybe even from last fall.  Most recently I shot them to capture the final weeks of Nikki’s second pregnancy…until today, that is.  This morning they brought their newest addition, Maddox, to see me!  We played for a couple of hours this morning and had a great time!

The House Family…expanding soon!

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

The House family came to visit me last weekend to capture the memories of their final weeks of their pregnancy.  Due soon with their first child, Jessica & Jonathan were a lot of fun to work with…I can’t wait to meet their baby in just a couple more weeks!

Liam…2 weeks

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Recently, Liam brought his parents to visit me.   He was 2 weeks old.  Liam was a wonderful newborn to shoot…he let us do almost anything with him.  Everything except the one shot his mom really wanted…the platter.  Ah well…we were rather persistent so here’s a slightly different take on the platter, just for Liam’s parents!  I hope you enjoy Liam as much as I did.

Elizabeth…maternity portraits

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Elizabeth came to see me recently, here in my studio in Cumming.  Expecting her first child, she wanted portraits to commemorate this time in her life.  Her baby is due in a few more weeks.  I really enjoyed the time I spent with Elizabeth and hope it shows in the images I captured for her!

The Martha family…babe #1 coming soon!

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

The Marthas came to see me for some maternity photos last week.  I didn’t know until halfway through that it was Greg’s birthday!  I hope these prove to be a lovely birthday gift for him.  I really enjoyed meeting the two of them and hope you enjoy their images as well!

Springtime expectations…

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Jaymee & Jordan are expecting their first in just a few more weeks.

I really enjoyed getting to know them when they came to see me on Monday afternoon!  We spent an hour or so chatting and having a great time while I worked to capture their first pregnancy for them.

Enjoy!

Cameron is 1 year old!

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Cameron brought his parents to my studio on Sunday afternoon to play in celebration of his recent first birthday!  I absolutely cannot believe this little guy is already 1!

We had a great time…it seems he learned how to walk quite well some time over the holidays so by now Mr. Cameron was nearly running!  He was very pleased to show off his new-found skills for me in between shots.  Such a funny and happy little guy!

Birth without fear.

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

In addition to portraiture, I also do birth photography.  I do quite a bit of it as a doula, of course, but I also do it outside of my doula work from time to time.

Last weekend, the day before the now legendary snowstorm of March 2009, I was invited to document the birth of a dear friend of mine.  It was her third child, second daughter and special for reasons beyond the obvious.  Julie’s mother, Teresa Howard, delivered Julie’s daughter up into her hands.  The large photo below captures the instant Julie is pulling her up into her arms from inside her body-and the joy that instant brought her.  In the background, Julie’s eldest child is present and watching as her baby sister entered the world.  Her words were nothing short of breathtaking that day…she said her mother was giving the world a brand new person, and later, she told her little brother on the phone that one day she too would do what her mother had just done.

What an amazing, inspiring and empowering day that was for all of us in the room.  I was and remain humbled and honored to have been invited to attend.  It was my sincere pleasure to be able to document the occasion for their family.
My birth photography, by it’s nature, is documentary-style.  It is not portraiture.  The photos are raw, real and maybe not technically perfect.  They allow you to experience the moment at it’s essence and evoke powerful emotions.

I hope you enjoy the rare treat in this powerful series of images.  Julie’s birth is an example to us all of what birth can be when approached with joy and humor in place of fear.

Maternity for a friend and fellow photographer…

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Julie, owner of Julie Moon Photography in Athens, is due the end of February with her 3rd child.  She came all the way to Cumming this evening to see me for her maternity session!  We’d planned this for some time and *almost* had to reschedule it when I was called to a birth this morning, but the birth stars lined up for us and all we needed was to push it back slightly to this evening.

I’m so very glad I was able to do this for Julie, to capture the fullness of her final pregnancy for her.  It’s so much fun working with fellow photographers…the things we come up with together are often so much better than either of us could devise on our own ;)

She makes pregnancy slook effortless and is nothing short of breathtaking…I think you will agree.
